Educational Background:

Masters in Early Childhood Education.

Number of Years Teaching:

This is my second year back in the classroom (and at WPSN) following 9 years as a full time caregiver to my 3 children. During this time, I enjoyed having the opportunity to volunteer and become involved in a number of different early childhood settings both in the US and the UK. Before my eldest child was born, I taught Kindergarten and First Grade for 5 years in St Louis.

Family and Pets:

I live with my husband, Brian and our three children.

5 values I wish to pass onto children:

I hope to keep alive and develop the amazing spark of joy, wonder and curiosity that all children are born with. More than anything, I want children to love learning and for them to feel safe enough to embrace the risk taking and challenges of discovery. I wish for them to learn to be independent but also interdependent – to know that whilst you can do things by yourself, it’s ok and important to ask for help when you need it because together we can be so much more. I want every child to know that they are special and important and they have a voice in our world.

How would you go about explaining the value of play to the parent of the children in your classroom?

Play is essential. It is vital to a child’s well being. Whilst they play, children are working on testing, tasting, and teasing apart ideas and the physical world to look what’s inside. They are making meaning of the world and seeking answers to questions that they have. All play is learning whether you can clearly see the skills being mastered or not. The importance of play has been well documented by many years of research and observations by renowned figures such as Piaget, Montessori and Vygotsky. Knowing and understanding all this, the more time that I spend with young children, the more I become convinced of the enormous value that play has, just for the joy of play itself. Play is enough

How do you find peace within yourself?

Walking and being in nature.

Taking the time to slow down and notice the little things.

Spending time with my family and friends.

What has life taught you so far?

That there is always more to learn and see.

That things rarely go as you planned them, but that’s where the wonder and adventure and amazingness lie.
