WPSN vision statement

Winnetka Public School Nursery strives to continue our tradition of excellence in innovative, developmental early childhood education by being a leader in interpreting the Reggio Emilia approach to learning.

  • Decisions based on the image of the child.
    • We believe children are capable and competent, worthy of respect and validation. By creating an inspiring and nurturing environment in the classroom and through careful observation, questioning and shared explorations, teachers build knowledge together with children and foster the growth of their creativity, problem-solving abilities and understanding of the world.
  • Critical importance of staff excellence and development.
    • We support the continued growth and professional learning of our highly knowledgeable and skilled teachers as they move forward on their shared Reggio journey with children and families.
  • Active partnerships among children, teachers and parents.
    • We seek partnerships that offer parents a unique opportunity to better understand, participate in, and appreciate their children's development while growing in their role as parents.
  • Community connections.
    • We endeavor to enrich our connections to the Winnetka public schools, surrounding communities, and the educational community at large, building upon the relationships developed throughout our rich history since 1927 by our founders, Carleton Washburne and Rose Alschuler.
